Erosion slope in the northern border of Skovbjerg Bakkeø, late glacial meltwater erosion, Storå meltwater plain

The site, located at Bur 10 km west of Holstebro, consists of an approximately 4 km long area with erosion slope on the border between Skovbjerg Bakkeø and Storådalen.

The northern part of Denmark's largest hill island, Skovbjerg Bakkeø, has been designated as a national geological interest area, NGI 77. Twelve sub-areas have been selected, four of which are located in the geopark. Three of these are treated at the site Sdr. Vosborg Hede , while the fourth is "Bur" (NGI 77-7), which covers a stretch of almost 4 km along the northern border of Skovbjerg Bakkeø towards Storådalen.

On the stretch from Idom Å, the facade of the hill island stands out unusually prominently as a 2 km long, straight steep slope. It has been eroded by the meltwater that drained from the Main Reservoir Line north of Skovbjerg Bakkeø west to the North Sea depression. The severe erosion occurred during the late glacial period, when the main runoff from Skelhøje/Alheden near Viborg found this path - see Storådalen and Stubbergård Sø - Flyndersø .

A public, combined rest area and collection point for canoes and kayaks at Bur is an excellent place to experience the Storå valley and the erosion slope. The site is part of a system of canoeing campsites along the entire Storå, where there is a tent site with water, toilet, campfire site and waste container.
