Remmerstrand - Resen Kær

Littorina Slope and the raised Stone Age seabed

Remmerstrand-Resen Kær is located on the coast west of Humlum and is characterized by low-lying beach areas and valleys bordering striking slopes and hills. Like the Veserne-Engbjerg-Plet site, the landscape is characterized by the significant sea level changes.

Resen Kær was previously a low-lying meadow area, but in the late 19th century the area was ditched and drained, and today it is cultivated. On the marine foreland at Remmerstrand, ral was previously extracted from the fossil beach walls, but this has now ceased. The old watermill, Åmølle , which is 500 years old, was active until 1953. The watermill is protected and is today a historical information centre run by volunteers.

Sections of the coast have been designated as Natura 2000 bird protection and habitat areas. These designations particularly include the salt marsh habitat type. The area around Åmølle is protected.
