Thralborgdalen

Late glacial meltwater valley

Trælborgdalen is located in the middle of the moraine landscape between the Limfjord and the Klosterhede meltwater plain, and midway between Lemvig and Struer. Trælborgdalen is a natural valley with an unregulated stream flow.

Trælborgdalen cuts deeply into the surrounding landscape and is characterized by a series of side valleys and ravines along most of its length. At the bottom of the valley runs the Klostermølle Å.

Trælborgdalen has probably also functioned as a transport route for melting ice during the rethrust that formed Bjerrumbuen north of the valley. Throughout the long period, the water has transported sediment out into the later shallow fjord that today consists of the Remmerstrand – Resen Kær area.

Klostermølle Å and the entire river valley with its valley sides are protected by Section 3 of the Nature Protection Act. A large area between Gudum and down towards Klostermølle has been designated as a cultural heritage area. There are a number of ancient monuments in the area and three mounds testify to the importance of the area in ancient times.

The water mill, Klostermølle, and the river valley are part of a larger trail system and constitute a recreational area for both locals and tourists.
