Salshøj – Sønderhede

Meltwater plain in front of the meeting between two lobes in the course of the Main Residence Line

The course of the main stationary line through the geopark is generally E-W, but is composed of a series of arcuate courses that reflect glacier lobes along the ice edge of the Main Outcrop.

The meeting between the individual arch forms coincides in several places with the outlet of tunnel valleys, e.g. Lemvig Tunneldal and Kilen . This site is an example of a location where two arches in the course of the Main Residence Line meet without association with a tunnel valley.

The site is located approximately 6 km east of Holstebro and covers an area of approximately 6x4 km and contains the Main Stationary Line. To the west, the site borders Hellegård Tunneldal and to the east, Stubbergård Sø - Søndersø tunneldal .

A distinctive circular, six-meter-deep depression with a diameter of 30 m, located just south of the road, about 1.2 km west of Bjergby, has been interpreted as a sinkhole formed by leaching of the high-lying limestone subsoil. Storhullet, Røverstuen or Taterhullet was protected in 1984.
