Linde Bakkeø - Sir Lyngbjerge
Hill island section in extension of the moraine land behind the Main Stationary Line
Linde Bakkeø is actually a "peninsula", as it is a high-lying landscape from the Saale Ice Age outside the north-south deflection of the Main Residence Line from the Kilen tunnel valley to the area south of Sir Lyngbjerge 5 km northeast of Holstebro.
To the west, the hill island borders the Klosterhede meltwater cone and the Fousingdalen , and to the south it is delimited by marked erosion slopes towards the Storådalen. The landscape is characterized by soft hills running in the direction NW-SE, which must be assessed to be marginal moraines from the Saale Ice Age, which were partially leveled during the periglacial processes of the last ice age.
The northeastern side of the hill range is densely pierced by erosion gorges down towards a parallel valley. The southeastern end forms the hill landscapes at Sir Lyngbjerge. The hill island lies in the Struer and Holstebro municipalities. Sir Lyngbjerge is located in Holstebro Municipality.
The Sir Lyngbjerge is a complex hill landscape, probably a marginal hill from the Saale Ice Age, which has been partially overrun by the ice of the Weichsel, which has divided the hill section in two. The eastern part has rounded hill profiles that have been covered by ice, and the western part, which is pierced by erosion ravines, is probably formed by meltwater from the stagnant glacier. The strong erosion has formed an impressive landscape of so-called false hills.
Sir Lyngbjerge was once one of the most important public gathering places, which could gather 2-3000 people for both political and religious meetings, especially in the latter part of the 19th century. Today, it is a publicly accessible and well-organized nature and leisure area.
