Odby Klint

Coastal cliff with exposed limestone and flint layers from the Danian and 3 ice ages

Odby Klint is an open coastal cliff on the southwestern Thyholm, where it forms a resistant projection on the equalizing coast along the Nissum Bredning. The peculiarity of Odby Klint is that deposits from 3 ice ages, Elster, Saale and Weichsel, are found here on top of the exposed, high-lying Danien limestone. The site has been designated as being of national geological interest (NGI 73). It has also been demonstrated here that a glacier lobe has changed direction around the high-lying limestone.

Under the southwestern part of Thyholm there is a salt structure, Uglev Salthorsten. The salthorsten is described in more detail under the site Bjørndal Kalkgrav . The limestone is not rich in fossils, but various pieces of benthic fauna and trace fossils can be found in the flint. The fossils are described in more detail under the site Bjørndal Kalkgrav .
