Odby Ground Moraine

North of Nissum Bredning lies the Thyholm peninsula, which forms the northernmost part of the geopark.

In relation to the model for the glacial landscape series, Thyholm represents in an almost exemplary manner the ground moraine landscapes that are typically encountered at a certain distance behind the edge of a glacier series.

The Main Stationary Line with the meltwater plain in front, the dead ice and meltwater landscapes behind, re-thrust moraines and inner depression is replaced here, approximately 15 km north of the Main Stationary Line, by the smooth and more homogeneous ground moraine landscape.

The southernmost part of the peninsula is characterized by a weak east-west-trending marginal moraine. The landscape immediately south of the village of Odby has a weak dead ice and meltwater character, but from the village and northward a smooth ground moraine landscape dominates, which characterizes the rest of Thyholm. The geologically determined differences between the glacial landscape types north and south of Nissum Bredning appear to have significant significance for the cultural-historical development of the region.
