Norre Vosborg

The more than 700-year-old manor house Nørre Vosborg was extensively renovated in the years 2004-2008 and is one of Denmark's best documented manor houses with a close connection to the entire development history of the region. The place contains a wealth of stories and is today a cultural gathering place with a hotel, restaurant and course facilities.

The history of Nørre Vosborg can be traced back to 1299, when the farm was located at the mouth of the Storåen River in Nissum Fjord. At that time, there was a connection to the North Sea, and the manor was very strategically located in relation to the transport routes of the time. However, it was also the proximity to the sea that put an end to the original Vosborg, as a storm surge destroyed the buildings in 1593. The location of the farm can be found as a rampart close to the current Nørre Vosborg. The rampart has been archaeologically investigated, and traces of a brickworks have been found on the site. Even before the original Vosborg was destroyed, the manor had been divided, and Nørre Vosborg had been built on the current site around 1575. The main farm comprises a four-winged structure with an associated breeding farm. The buildings of the main farm date from the four centuries from the 16th century to the 19th century.

The large meadows that belonged to Nørre Vosborg provided the basis for the production of steers for export and were for many years a significant source of income. In the period 1824 to 1868, Councillor Andreas Evald Meinert Tang was the owner of the manor, and he contributed to the further development of the entire region. He tested new methods in agriculture by, among other things, also focusing on dairy cattle, he expanded the manor's own brickworks to become the largest in the region and he then established a brandy distillery. He was politically active and at one point was also visited by HC Andersen, who had come to West Jutland to, among other things, experience the North Sea. In 2004, Realea acquired Nørre Vosborg and carried out a very extensive restoration of the manor over the course of 4 years, during which many exciting discoveries were made. Nørre Vosborg is thus one of Denmark's best documented manors.
